Most connection problems are one of two things. Check the phone and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi, and that the computer's firewall is not blocking the companion. If the network is the problem and you cannot change it, use a USB cable instead — the FAQ below has the steps.
FAQ
Which simulators work?
Any simulator that reads a standard game controller — Liftoff, VelociDrone, Uncrashed, TRYP and DRL among them.
Where is the iPhone app?
Not on the App Store yet, so there is no link to give you. Write in and you will get one email when it is there.
Does it cost anything?
Uplink Companion is free. The iPhone app's free version is the whole flying experience — pair, fly, lay out your own sticks, one saved model and three rate profiles.
Where is the companion's screen?
On the computer, at http://127.0.0.1:8766/. The pairing code and the QR code are there.
My simulator doesn't list Uplink.
The name to look for depends on the OS. On macOS and Linux the simulator lists Uplink Transmitter. On Windows it shows up as an Xbox 360 Controller. That is Uplink — Windows names it after the driver that makes it, not after the app. Either way, start the companion before the simulator looks for controllers; the companion's panel shows whether the controller is up.
The phone can't find the companion.
Club, office and campus Wi-Fi often stop devices on the same network from finding each other, which is what pairing depends on. Confirm both are on that same network first. If it still doesn't find it, use the USB cable instead: open Uplink to its cockpit screen, plug the phone into the computer, and accept the “Trust This Computer” prompt the first time. The companion's panel shows the QR code and the 9-digit code whichever route you take.
I denied the Local Network prompt.
On the phone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → Uplink → on. The USB cable path above doesn't use the local network, so it works without this permission.
